Week 10
In this week's lessons on Indesign, there was a segment explaining why books are here to stay as a mass media. Chip Kidd explained that people have more personal relationships with books than with digital media. I think it has to do with how books invite your senses-- the weight of the book in your hand and the smell of the pages. I liked how Kidd said books were made to outlast us, which reminded me of the project that was sent into space with mementos of humanity. Though books do not seem as popular as movies or shows, I do not think they will ever truly disappear.
I wanted my photo album to have a scrapbook look, so I created little rectangles to resemble tape and added drop shadows to my images to create the illusion that they were being taped down from one side. The different frame shapes were fun to play around with though I mostly stuck with square or rectangular frames. I did have one oval-shaped photo, and I liked how the wrap-around object shape option looked with that. When I was choosing colors, I was inspired by the Statue of Liberty and then chose orange since they are complementary colors. I added an interactive button to go to a TikTok I made that was a compilation of my trip. I had tried to add a link instead, but there was an error; I also tried adding transitions between the pages, but when I exported it, there were none. I feel that if I had had more time, I would've been able to figure it out, but all in all, I liked how my photo album came out.
