Week 9
Illustrator is used more for graphics like logos and advertising graphics so there is a lot of shape and line tools. The tools were somewhat confusing at times, but once I got the hang of the vector points it became easier. For the Harriet Tubman $20 bill assignment, I began by creating my own bill and used the image gradient and some of the shape and line tools. However, I figured using the Adobe stock library I could find a $20 dollar bill template, which I decided to use. I found a portrait photo of Harriet Tubman and used the image trace tool and then the lasso tool to cut out the background. I then recolored the image of Harriet Tubman so that she matched the bill. I found it a little difficult to get her to match the bill just because the photograph I chose of her had different lighting. I noticed that on the current 20 dollar bill there is a banner or flag that says President Jackson's name so I created that banner using a three rectangular shapes and the line tool to make the triangular ends and curved lines. I added text saying Tubman in all capitals and then added a drop shadow effect. All the colors I used I picked from the bill so it was all a similar palette.
Adobe Illustrator is fairly similar to Photoshop, however, Illustrator is a vector graphics editor so there are some differences in the tools. I also noticed the interface, especially, the layers worked a little different because they acted almost like folders so you can see what elements are in each layer. The lessons this week also introduced me to the asset export panel, as well as, different tools. It was interesting to learn new things about this program since I had used it in the past, but I learned a lot this week!
