Week 6

I have always wanted to visit a dark room, so I enjoyed the video explaining the different equipment. There was more involved than I thought, and realize how much easier it is to develop digital photographs. Regarding, file formats, I always saw anything other than jpeg or png formats as irrelevant. I never knew what they stood for before watching the lesson video! I was previously taught that jpeg files were best for photography and png files were best for graphic design. I used to make custom stickers, and I used png files because anything white could become transparent, and the RGB format was compatible with the sticker printing machine; they also work best when resizing designs. Graphic interchange format, better known as gifs, I have only seen used for memes. I have noticed that the colors aren't the best quality which was mentioned in the video but they are useful with animated logos since usually designs have a limited color palette. BMP format has made a bit of a comeback for me as there was a TikTok trend about comparing how your friend would draw you versus a self-portrait with pixel art. Seeing the different file formats being compared made me realize that they are all relevant in some way.

I liked this week's assignment using Lightroom. I had used it prior to this and always noticed how easy it is to navigate. The videos about Lightroom were very informative, and I learned a lot I hadn't known. For one, I had never used the eyedropper tool in the white balance controls, so it was interesting to see how that would change the image colors. I also was never sure of what the difference was between vibrance and saturation. I had noticed how they would affect photos differently but didn't know it was specifically because vibrance protects the colors found in skin tones. I especially liked that the videos would mention any keyboard shortcuts.

I used this photo to play around with the different tools in Lightroom while going through the lessons this week. (The bottom is the edited version.)
